Alle whisky’s komen van distilleerderijen die zijn gesloten zijn.
Deze distilleerderijen zijn al afgebroken of staan op de nominatie om afgebroken te worden. De kans is dus nihil dat er nog whisky wordt gemaakt bij één van de bovenstaande distilleerderijen. Hierdoor is de kans groot dat deze flessen de komende jaren veel in waarde zullen stijgen. Daarnaast zijn het ook heerlijke whisky’s om te nuttigen, dus kunt u niet zo lang wachten, dan heeft u altijd een heerlijk flesje whisky achter de hand.

1. Caperdonich 19 yo 1992 (57.3%, Signatory)
Colour: Gold.
Nose: Delicious fruit aromas, nuts and tones of wood (Sherry), banana, coffee and chocolate.
Mouth: Fruit with some light bitter notes of the wood and sherry.
Finish: The finish is long and slightly oily

2. Littlemill 21 yo 1989 (51,3%, The Whisky Agency)
Colour: gold.
Nose: starts on a great combination of slightly austere mineral and grassy notes with more extravagant fruits such as tangerines and papayas. Goes on with more hay, ripe peaches, greengages and whiffs of fresh ink. A little more vanilla and marzipan after a while. Nice complexity.
Mouth: a rich fresh fruitiness and notes of green spices and… grass as well as a little ‘green’ coffee from the sherry. There are raisins and prunes as well but they’re not big whereas the coffee grows bolder by the minute. Interesting combination of cofeeish and lemony notes, quite unusual.
Finish: rather long, more toasted/roasted, with quite some Ovaltine in the aftertaste.

3. Lochside 18 yo 1991 (43%, Gordon & MacPhail)
Colour: Light gold.
Nose: Sweet, scented, hint of camphor and a toasted maltiness. With water:  Perfumed with nutty aromas, the sweetness is now in the background.
Palate: Sweet and spicy, malty notes again present. With water: Smoky initially with earthy/herbal notes.
Finish: Drying.

4. Pittyvaich 20 yo (57.5%, OB)
Colour: straw.
Nose: it’s the high alcohol that strikes first, with notes of coffee and then pretty much the same very grassy notes as in the old 1977. Also whiffs of damp earth and ‘wet wood’ plus just a little vanilla. More straight oak after a while, also toasted oak and ‘yellow’ flowers, nectar. With water: it’s the oak that stands out now, with also hints of beer and even more toasted ‘stuff’.
Mouth: we’re even closer to the old Cadenhead now but this is rather creamier and even fatter. Sweet oak, vanilla, café latte, apples, grass and white pepper. No bubblegum this time. Notes of ale. With water: same as the 1977, only with more tannins.
Finish: ditto (more or less).
Score: 83/100 (Serge Valentin)

6. Tamdhu 26 yo (48.4%, David Stirk)
Nose: The nose starts of with a blast of dark chocolate and that smell lingers. There is also somespicyness, like mole (which goes very well with chocolate). There is also something fresh like anise in there.
Taste: There is some banana flavour in there. Not specifaclly banana, but artificial banana flavour, like you find in candy or yogurt. Also some chili peppers.
Finish: The finish is pretty long with again some chocolaty notes and again that spicyness. Quite light, but a very nice and lingering taste that’ll just make you sit back and enjoy some more.

In pakket twee zitten whisky’s die momenteel veel gezocht zijn.
Grote namen uit het verleden als Caperdonich, Glenury Royal en Glen Mhor, maar ook echte toppers die hoge scores hebben gekregen van de whiskycritici als Jim Murray of Serge Valentin.

1. Glen Mhor 27 yo 1982 (52%, Càrn Mòr)
Colour: Old gold
Nose: An aroma of sweet fruits and dark malt.
Mouth: Robust and dry on the palate, with a full and smoky flavour.
Finish: Long and smoky

2. Glenury Royal 37 yo 1973 (43%, The Whisky Agency & The Nectar)
Nose: Honeyed nose with apple pie and caramelized sugar. Baked pear, raisins, apricots. Maybe a little papaya. Some nutty notes. Hay. Soft spices (cinnamon, mint). Nicely vibrant yet “antique” at the same time.
Mouth: A bit too soft, but smooth and fruity, showing mainly oranges, both fresh and candied. Pears as well. Developing a spicy side (mint, clove, aniseed) which makes it quite oriental. Honey. Some resinous oak and herbal tea. Faint waxy notes (paraffin?).
Finish: Not too long, but nicely minty with a bit of drying oak.
Score: 91/100 (whiskynotes.be)

3. Glen Keith 40 yo 1970 (45.1%, The Whisky Agency)
Colour: Straw.
Nose: I think I never had a malt whisky that smelled so much of Riesling in my entire life, and I’m not exaggerating. Late harvest Riesling, to be more precise. Touches of pineapples, sour apples, Belgian gueuze beer, grapefruits, pineapples, a little dill, lemon balm… This is really fun and even after fifteen minutes, it’s still all on Riesling even if there are also wee whiffs of mint, camphor and vanilla. It’s quite spectacular, let’s see if there’s as much Riesling on the palate.
Mouth: The rieslingness is less obvious but not completely absent, while wheelbarrows of pineapples in various forms make for the heart of this palate. Tinned, crystallized, fresh… There’s also a little coconut and vanilla, touches of white chocolate, milk chocolate, cake and then a soft spiciness. Mostly cinnamon and nutmeg but little pepper. Very soft oak.
Finish: Long and NOT oaky, which is quite an achievement at this age. A little more on oranges now. Perfect aftertaste on lemon and bergamot, with just a little pepper and ginger. At last! ;-)

4. Lochside 30 yo 1981 (46%, Berry Bros & Rudd)
Colour: Straw
Nose: The intensely fragrant nose affords tropical fruit and some trademark grapefruit notes. There is a sauvignon blanc aspect, some liquorice with honey and methol hints.
Mouth: The lively, fizzing palate has great depth and bursts with fruit, some tangerine citrus dominating. A unique, classy and rare old dram,
Finish: Long with great balance

5. Caperdonich 37 yo 1972 (51.4%, Duncan Taylor)
Colour: Mid amber.
Nose: Intense Fruits, Mango.
Mouth: Sweet tropical fruits dominate with a velvety creamy background.
Finish: Velvety orange, long and smooth.

6. St. Magdalene 28 yo 1982 (50%, Douglas Laing)
Nose: Fresh and malty, lightly spiced + some autumnal fruits.
Palate: Mouthcoatingly viscous, toffee’d and full of spice.
Finish: That spice runs on + barley sweetness – and vanilla.
