Glengoyne 25 years 2022 Limited Release

Matured exclusively in hand-selected sherry casks for a quarter of a century, this unique malt is an important addition to the Glengoyne collection. This bright amber beauty has red fruits, leather and brown sugar on the nose and soft oak, cinnamon, stewed fruits and a Seville marmalade tang on the palate. The finish is very long with spicy liquorice.

The malt is presented in a new heavy bespoke bottle and outer box. The bottle features a fine metal stopper, crafted cartouche and delicately branded neck tag and is attractively displayed in an oak box interior which includes an engraved plinth. The elegant exterior has a refined feather pattern subtly varnished on the pack.

Tasting Notes:

Appearance: Bright amber.

Nose: Red Fruits, old leather and brown sugar.

Palate: Soft oak, cinnamon, stewed fruits and a Seville marmalade tang.

Finish: Very long, with spicy liquorice, slowly drying.

Nose: certainly less bulky than the 21 Years. This is more leathery, more elegant, with (slightly) more fruits, especially red berries. Cinnamon pastry. Figs and dates. Light hints of tobacco, Moscovado sugar and polished wood. Great balance.

Mouth: dark flavours like coffee and bitter chocolate, mixed with leather, oranges (and marmalade) and some herbal notes. A little burnt sugar. Still a nice juicy brightness of stewed fruits to cut through the heavy sherry. Some cedar and cinnamon powder, pipe tobacco and nuts towards the end.

Finish: long, still deeply sherried with nice tobacco and warm spices. Chocolate, walnuts and some peppery notes.

Perhaps slightly below the level of the Glengoyne 25 Years I tried last time, but still head and shoulders above the 21 Years in my book. Just more classic, more refined, and the higher strength helps it to shine. Pretty great whisky.

Glengoyne Distillery

Glengoyne Distillery ligt aan de voet van de Dumgoyne heuvels, net ten noorden van Glasgow, op de grens van de Schotse Hooglanden en Lowlands. Opgericht in 1833, staat Glengoyne bekend om zijn traditionele en ambachtelijke benadering van whiskyproductie. De distilleerderij bevindt zich in een schilderachtige omgeving, omgeven door groene heuvels en het zuivere water van de nabijgelegen bronnen.

Een uniek kenmerk van Glengoyne is het gebruik van luchtgedroogde gerst, in plaats van het gebruikelijke turfgedroogde proces, wat resulteert in een milde whisky zonder rokerigheid. De whisky’s van Glengoyne staan bekend om hun rijke, fruitige smaakprofiel met tonen van appel, peer, toffee en een subtiele hint van kruiden. Het langzame distillatieproces en de rijping in een combinatie van ex-bourbon en sherryvaten dragen bij aan de complexiteit en diepte van de whisky’s.

Glengoyne is trots op zijn milieuvriendelijke benadering en duurzame praktijken, zoals het gebruik van hernieuwbare energie. Deze distilleerderij is niet meer weg te denken in het Schotse whiskylandschap.
